Tang v Rosemount

Tang v Rosemount Tang 2-7 Rosemount 1-4 Tang played Rosemount in the fourth round of the Intermediate Championship in Rochfortbridge. Played on a wet, windy evening with the sky lit by lightening, Tang started the brighter playing into a stiff breeze. Tang took an early lead with Martin Rock and Aidan Burke kicking two pts each before Rosemount got on the scoreboard. Tang had to absorb a lot of pressure keeping Rosemount to three pts and so took a slender one pt lead at the interval 0-4 to 0-3. Tang started the second half flying with Aidan Burke and Martin Rock kicking two excellent pts to stretch Tang’s lead. Rosemount did have a lot of possession but were unable to make any headway against a very solid Tang defence. Sean Egan then entered the fray and almost immediately kicked an excellent pt. Tang had a purple patch at this stage. John Rock then finished to the net after great work by Niall Bannon for a cracking goal. Soon after a shot from Martin Rock rebounded from the top of the upright and Colm Conlon easily out jumped the Rosemount goalie to punch to the net to take a commanding ten pts lead Rosemount did have a consolation goal when Tang’s defence failed to deal with a speculative shot. This was a battling performance from Tang and now puts them in pole position on the table and into the play offs. Best for Tang in defence were Chris Connor, Kieran Duncan and Chris Mc Cann in the fullback line. Robert English gathered up ball all day at centre back aided by an excellent Sean Coughlan who won a lot of ball and the ever tigerish John Rock. Speedy recovery to John who picked up an nasty injury late in the game. Trevor English had a fine hour at midfield with Niall Bannon, Sean Egan and the aforementioned Aidan Burke and Martin Rock the pick of the forwards. Tang’s last match is against neighbours Ballymore who have also qualified for the knockout stages. Team Michael Galvin, Christopher McCann, Kieran Duncan, Chris Connor, Sean Coughlan, Robert English (Capt), John Rock, Trevor English, , Fergus Farrell Niall Bannon, Colm Conlon, Niall Neary, William Flanagan, Aidan Burke, Martin Rock, Sean Egan, Darragh Burke, Owen Coughlan, Martin Donoghue,, Alan Murray, Niall Lynn.
