Tang v Athlone

Tang v Athlone Tang 1-8 Athlone 1-10 Tang played hosts to Athlone on Sunday morning last. On a heavy pitch Tang started brightly but wasted a lot of possession. The game was nip and tuck with both sides exchanging pts but Athlone turned the screw when after an excellent movement Sam Omukoro finished to the net to put some daylight between the teams. Athlone finished the half strongly taking a 1-6 to 0-4 into the interval. Athlone with the breeze on their backs pressed on and stretched their lead with three more pts. Athlone were guilty of some poor shooting and missed opportunity. Tang threw caution to the wind and when Martin Rock was taken down heading for goal, Martin duly slotted the penalty to the back of the net. Tang now with Robert English and Niall Bannon in the middle of the park driving forward Tang added two pts from Aidan Burke and Mike Bannon. However Athlone added another pt and were denied a goal with a double save from Michael Galvin. Best for Tang were Robert English, Niall Bannon, John Rock, Trevor English, Aidan Burke and Martin Rock. Speedy recovery to John Rock who picked up a niggly injury.
