Tang v Castletown Finea/C/W

Tang v Castletown Finea/c/w Tang 1-18 Castletown Finea /C/W/ 1-10 Tang played Castletown Finea /C/W/ in their round of Intermediate Championship in The Downs on Saturday evening. On a glorious summer’s evening Tang kicked the first two pts through Martin Rock and Aidan Burke . Castletown Finea /C/W/ responded with three pts to take the lead. Tang were guilty of missing three gilt edged goal chances with Finea’s keeper bringing off three saves including a penalty save. The match ebbed and flowed and Tang’s missed chances came back to haunt them when Finea found the net after a good move. Tang rallied and Aidan Burke kicked a brace of pts to narrow the lead to two pts. Tang had a lucky escape when Finea punched a centre against the crossbar with the goal gaping. At the interval Tang were down two pts 1-5 to 0-7 after playing with a strong wind in the first half. The match ebbed and flowed in the second half with both exchanging 2pts apiece. Sean Egan’s substitution added a lot of penetration to Tang’s half forward line almost immediately and an excellent surge forward from the over lapping corner back Chris Connor ,resulting in a high centre which was superbly fielded by Martin Rock who turned and shot for a fine goal. Tang now led by two pts and Tang pushed on with pts from Trevor English, Sean Egan and Niall Neary. Aidan Burke gave an exhibition of point taking , both right and left footed. Tang ran out worthy winners as Finea’s challenge petered out. The second half was a big improvement with more passing and cohesive play resulting in some fine scores. Best for Tang in defence were Kieran Duncan, Chris Connor, Chris McCann and Robert English, Trevor English and Niall Bannon were excellent in midfield, Fergus Farrell had a fine hour at centre forward, Aidan Burke, Martin Rock and Sean Egan when introduced were the pick of the forwards. Tang will be happy how they finished and will look to the next challenge, Rosemount on Aug 9th in Rochfortbridge at 6 o clock.
